RL Stats – Fire on Victoria

So apparently so far we are looking at 96 dead, more missing, something like 78 injured, 11 critically and 3700 left homeless from Bushfires according to a headline from The Australian (FEB 09/09). Miss Elf has a good post on the various bushfire relief efforts out there.

All crazy like we also have bad floods over in Queensland – Australia’s weird like that.

As usual the best & worst of human nature is on display come a disaster. You get great charities springing into action, people come together, your everyday heroes arise, awesome generosity is displayed, warehouses are filled with relief goodies and all that.

You also get arsonists who try to burn the warehouses, looters who try to loot the warehouses, vandals who try to graffiti the warehouses, fake charities who want warehouses for just themselves… ahh you get the idea… dickheads and all that rot.

Kinda reminds me of barrens chat or PUG groups on some level.

Maa I have to ring a friend in Vic – last fire season I didn’t think to call and she was horribly offended because she was evacuated and the whole thing terrified her.

I do a lot of work with FoodBank and I can tell you, those scammers/theifs/other-breeds-of-@$$holes are a real problem for us.

It’s just sick that even when people are going hungry, people still try and pull a fast one and take the much needed and very limited suppies for their own personal profit.

Ahh I am all good and A-OK – Thankyou for asking 🙂

I’ve been to about five charity events for the Victoria fires since and shelled out for various rescue funds going past my work desk.

My friend moved into the Melbourne city and was quite safe in the end – although she said the earthquake tremor that went through the city scared her flatmate (happily it was a tiny tremor and nothing to worry about.)

It all seems to have wound down a little … hee and a Koala found fame.
